This macro shot of the Kirin gives an idea of how fine is the grain on this wood. I carved the piece in ebony using the Netsuke technique called Ittobori (single blade). This means one knife is used to create the carving. The patina is developed entirely by the knife blade, no abrasives or polishes are involved in the surface finish.
