Description
United States map from the 1800s in the shape of a pig. A border of pigs representing the different states with the date of statehood and typical pork related state foods of that year. Corner vignettes suggest pig related incidents that had effects at state level.
This "Porcineograph" was designed as a good-cheer souvenir for the Fifth Regiment Maryland National Guard, the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues, the Richmond Knights Templar, the Washington Light Infantry of Charleston, South Carolina and other guests from the South. These were participant in the Fete Champetre celebrated in Wellesly, Massachusetts during the Bunker Hill Centennial on June 19, 1875.
