Designed by Isaac M. Laddon, B-24 Liberator holds the record for the most produced U.S. military aircraft. There are few surviving examples of the high-wing, cantilever monoplane with twin tail fins and rudders. The all-metal aircraft was flown by a crew of ten men.
The Liberator's long, slender and extremely aerodynamic wings increased its cargo capacity, speed and fuel economy which gave it greater range. It was widely used in the Pacific Theater, where the extended range made it the heavy bomber of choice.
Consolidated originally built B-24's at San Diego and Fort Worth, but Douglas Aircraft, Ford, and North American also built the versatile heavy bomber later in the war. From an original 1943 OWI photo. All Rights Reserved © 2012 padre art
